This RUINED our LAND // Building Our OWN House – Ep. 25

We are really getting into this electrical project now, and the trench that we have to dig is literally tearing apart our land. When we look at the mess it’s creating it’s hard to remember that this will all pay off BIG when we have electricity in our cabin. Right now, though, it’s hard to see past the mess. In this episode, we are working hard to dig a trench deep enough to lay the thick wire from our main panel to our cabin’s electrical panel. We are very fortunate to have a friend help us out with this project. To pass inspection we have to dig the trench just over 2 feet deep and about 18 inches wide. This will give us the room we need to lay both our electrical and water into the the trench and they will still be the necessary 12 inches apart from one another. Follow along with us as we deal with hardware shortages, obstacles in the trench, and dealing with thick wire. And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on YouTube. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 9 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own. Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin. Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.
