Our Cabin is HERE // Building our Cabin Kit Home – Episode 30

We have been waiting for this day for 1 ½ years! Coronavirus put a halt to our dream to build our own cabin because the company we purchased our cabin from had to temporarily shut down their production. We opted to push the delivery of our cabin kit home off to this summer. So we waited patiently, and NOW the day is finally here! Our cabin kit home is from Conestoga Log Cabins and Homes. When your home is delivered to you it comes on a flatbed trailer being hauled by a semi. Our cabin is a 1300 square foot home, so it came on TWO truck loads. The unloading of the truck is up to us, and we decided to rent a heavy duty forklift to unload the truck. We are put to the test as Ryan learns how to drive the forklift on Day one. Plus, since we live at the bottom of a fairly steep gravel road, we have to unload the whole load at the bottom of the road and then haul each pallet up the road on the forklift or towable flatbed trailer. It’s an exhausting day, but it’s also an amazing day! We hope you enjoy this episode as we take you along for the ride! And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on YouTube. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 9 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own. Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin. Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.
