The day is FINALLY here!! We are breaking ground on our dream cabin!! We have been dreaming of this moment for over a year now and it’s here! Our building permit has been approved and we are on our way to building our A-Frame cabin. First up on the agenda of building our a-frame cabin? Building a solid foundation. We decided to hire help for both the dig out of our foundation and the building of the concrete foundation. Although, it would be super cool to say we built the WHOLE cabin on our own, there are just a few things that feel a little too far out of our comfort zone. The foundation is one of those steps in the build. We just know that if you don’t get a level foundation then the rest of your build will not go well, so we called in the help of 5 Guys Excavation. In this episode you’ll get to see them begin the dig of the cabin foundation, as well as create a safe turn around for heavier trucks during our house build. Ryan and I also get a little bit of work done in our yurt. Winter is closing in and when we stay up at our land the nights are getting cold in our yurt, so we get Manuel (our pellet stove) moved onto his spot in the mantle of the yurt. And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on YouTube. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 8 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own. Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin. Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.
