I’m curious . . . . Did you have a part in building your home? If you did, what is one thing you wish you would have done differently in the building process? We want to know because even with the just preparing for our foundation for our cabin build we have already had to decide to make additions to our build (which always means mo’ money), BUT we have decided that in this build, if there is an addition we want, we will figure out a way to make it happen. Our first addition is adding on another foot to our foundation. Yes, it’s an added expense, but we know that our 70 year old selves will thank our 40 year old selves for making this addition. In today’s episode, you get to follow along as we do some road maintenance to prepare our land for the concrete truck that will come up for our foundation. Along with the road maintenance we also have to do some maintenance to our 20 year old pellet stove that is in our yurt. It is not heating our yurt properly so we have to get to the bottom of this problem. And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on YouTube. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 8 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own. Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin. Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.
